How do you step up, speak up, and make sure your skills are recognized at work? Advocating for yourself is really just showing support for yourself and the value you bring.

Want to keep growing your career and learning more? It starts with making sure people know what you can do. Show your team that you’re an asset, and let them see those hidden talents of yours that could make a difference.

But before jumping in, take a moment to reflect on what makes you unique. Think about your skills — yes, everyone’s got some! Even if it’s just one key strength, focus on making that one shine.

1. List out your skills and talents. Take stock of what you’re bringing to the table.

2. Look for areas where you could step in. Over the past few weeks, have you noticed any issues at work that your skills could help solve?

3. Reach out and let people know. Send a quick email to your manager, something like, “Hey, I’d love to help out with XYZ.” Managers are busy, so if you don’t get a response right away, follow up or find another place where you can pitch in.

Remember, your manager may not always notice what you bring, so help them out by highlighting where you can contribute. Don’t take on too much, but be sure to communicate if your workload is heavy. Know your value and let your skills shine!

Good luck, and go get it!
